Domestic Violence are behaviors used to establish power and control over another person through fear and intimidation.

What Is Abuse?

PHYSICAL ABUSE

  • Pushing, shoving, slapping, punching or kicking
  • Threatening victim with a weapon
  • Throwing objects at people
  • Stalking

 

EMOTIONAL/PSYCHOLOGICAL ABUSE

  • Using threats and intimidation
  • Killing pets
  • Destroying property
  • Threatening to hurt  or harm family members;
  • Isolation from friends and family
  • Threatening to commit suicide
  • Displaying weapons
  • Using children
  • Minimizing, denying or blaming

SEXUAL ABUSE

  • Touching sexually when not wanting to be touched
  • Forcing sex with others
  • Forcing to watch while having sex with others
  • Forcing unwanted sexual acts

ECONOMIC ABUSE

  • With holding money
  • Making an intimate partner beg for necessary items, i.e., food, personal hygiene items, children's items
  • Taking  money
  • Limiting outside activities
  • Restricting use of phone/vehicle

ELDER ABUSE

  • Neglect or maltreatment of the elderly by a caretaker or family member
  • Financial exploitation
  • Denial of basic medical care
