Domestic Violence are behaviors used to establish power and control over another person through fear and intimidation.
What Is Abuse?
PHYSICAL ABUSE
- Pushing, shoving, slapping, punching or kicking
- Threatening victim with a weapon
- Throwing objects at people
- Stalking
EMOTIONAL/PSYCHOLOGICAL ABUSE
- Using threats and intimidation
- Killing pets
- Destroying property
- Threatening to hurt or harm family members;
- Isolation from friends and family
- Threatening to commit suicide
- Displaying weapons
- Using children
- Minimizing, denying or blaming
SEXUAL ABUSE
- Touching sexually when not wanting to be touched
- Forcing sex with others
- Forcing to watch while having sex with others
- Forcing unwanted sexual acts
ECONOMIC ABUSE
- With holding money
- Making an intimate partner beg for necessary items, i.e., food, personal hygiene items, children's items
- Taking money
- Limiting outside activities
- Restricting use of phone/vehicle
ELDER ABUSE
- Neglect or maltreatment of the elderly by a caretaker or family member
- Financial exploitation
- Denial of basic medical care
